Strolling through the historic center

The first thing to do in Gassin is, of course, to stroll through its superb historic center, whose traces date back to the 11th century, which is why it is listed as one of France’s most beautiful villages. As you make your way up the narrow cobbled streets, you’re bound to come across several of Gassin’s landmarks: the Saracen gateway, the passage du Guet, the Notre-Dame-de-la-Compassion chapel, the washhouses, the mill and the monument to Saint-Joseph. And don’t miss the Androuno, “the narrowest street in the world” according to National Geographic, just 29 cm wide! When you reach the top of the village, on the Place Deï Barri, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the Maures massif and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.

Visit the remarkable Hardy-Denonain botanical garden

The remarkable L’Hardy-Denonain botanical garden is one of Gassin’s pride and joys. Purchased in 1973 by Germaine L’Hardy-Denonain, the garden has gradually evolved into an exceptional botanical garden, classified as remarkable in 2009. Over an area of 2,500 m², the garden winds its way through Mediterranean plants: cork oaks, mulberries, myrtles, Venus hair, acanthus, poppies, lilacs, madder, irises, roses… It’s hard not to be enchanted by the fragrances and colors of the remarkable L’Hardy-Denonain botanical garden. The place is as zen and romantic as you could wish! Occasional events are held in the garden. Admission is free, so why not make the most of it during your vacation in Gassin.
